What reason are you still into (or faltering from) KH for?

I find myself thinking I'm into the series for all the wrong reasons. I'll keep it brief. I guess the only string left that's keeping me around..is ironically the gameplay and the "what the heck happens next" factor. But, right now, I'm very indifferent about this series (i.e. drawing away from the characters, Disney characters feel like a shadow of themselves, the overall atmosphere after KH1 feels more like an anime than your classic Disney movie [And no, I don't associate the word "Complex" with "Anime"], the worlds aren't very fun to get into, etc). Eh, I dunno. Maybe the future titles will win me back. But, as I said, I mainly stick around for gameplay and the "what happens next" factor. But, eh, that's it.

What I mostly hate is Disney pushing childishness into the characters and plotline in KH2. It became all about "oh lets help these disney characters", and gameplay was the only thing that kept me going, but even it got monotonous(I blame the finishing moves, and meatshield support characters.). It wasn't near balanced enough.

I kinda forgot about Kingdom Hearts for a while, and then with the release of the new games, I went back and replayed KH and KH2. So maybe it's me wanting to know as much as I can about the first games, before playing the new ones.
To tell you the truth though, there is something else keeping me into the games but I can't figure out what it is...

The series bores me now. They take too long to release a game and with the disappointment that i got in playing KH2, i just lost all interest in this. I dont even know who these new characters are. Like that one that looks like Roxas. WTF? im confused.
Okie, back to lurking in the Games and Entertainment sectionsssssssssss.

I always think of it as one of those games/series that once it has you, it has you.

And it looks good visually, story is ok if overly confusing at first, but it unfolds at a pretty nice pace .
And again as someone above said it feels like watching a classic film that you haven't seen for a while.
Last but not least is "that thing" that for some reason will not let me completely forget about the series and never play them again.
Every night I look at the case and think "Oh, haven't played THE game for ages" but they're too long to playthrough now i'm at college and work and shiz .

KH Re:CoM- love the story outside of the disney worlds and the gameplay
KHII- ugh. gameplay is awesome, and the story at hollow bastion, twilight town, and the world that never was is great. Disney stories suck though. KHI was mostly knew stuff, taking the disney characters and throwing them into a battle to save the princesses. KHII seems like its just a repeat of the disney movies, with heartless thrown in as enemies, instead of soldiers or hyenas or whatever else the characters fought in the movies.
why do i stay? i actually think that this last playthrough will be my last for a long time. the new games are interesting, but they take to long to come out, and my interest is led to other games. the three that are out are now to easy for me, and the stories to repetitive, and although i still love the music, i figured i need a break for maybe a couple years... or decades... to forget the plot and how to play, so that it will be new and challenging again someday

If I knew I would tell you, though it's weird, I have no real interest in the new games coming, I just can't escape the old ones, especially KH1 it was so completely not what I was expecting.
I always think of it as one of those games/series that once it has you, it has you.
Yeah. I'm also with you on this. I want to know what happens, but I'm not looking forward to the new games. I'd be more interested if they stuck to a real platform (no GBA, DS, PSP). But KH 1 was truly the best.

Back when I got KH1 I thought it was the coolest game ever. And then when CoM came out I thought it was pretty awesome. But then I got my first Final Fantasy game (FFX) and....
Well I thought it was even cooler. Not quite as childish.
Though the real childishness didn't appear until KH2. Some of the story just seemed to dissolve. Especially in the seemingly pointless Disney Worlds.

I love Kingdom Hearts, I really do, but its just terrible how they make five year spans in between games. I also have some sort of thing for Nomura- I'm pretty much interested in anything he does, mainly because I find his character designs snazzy.
And I think I've stated this before, but I was attracted to the first game because of Simple and Clean. That song hypnotized me.

Now, KH1...it's okay. Little annoying at times, but I still enjoy it. KH:CoM, I loved the story, it was interesting. The idea that rested on memory and everything I found very interesting. KH2...ah. Roxas was wonderful, I loved his story. However, this is where Disney and Sora started to ruin the story. It bounced between silly, pointless Disney, to serious and interesting original story. I thought Twilight Town was amazing and the minigames were amusing. But everything else...blegh. After so many times of playing, the sugar just gives you diabetes.
I still am interested because...there is a wonderful story behind it. Now, if it lost some of that pointless Disney, I'd be okay. Sure, mix in some of the characters, but really? I'm tired of the Disney worlds and I'm tired of Sora. The next games look interesting and exciting and that's good.
Plus...I still haven't gotten everything from the game. *sweatdrop*

This I can agree with...
All that criticism came from the bias against Disney, really...
...though, I find most Disney animated movies more intense than a KH game. =/ Honestly. I'm not even talking about gravity defying stunts, either....

I find that I play through each new game in the series a few times, by then I know the story almost word from word. Then bail out for like 2 years. Come back and hey presto! New game due out in a couple of months. So I go back and re-play the old ones so I remember the plot. By then the new game is out
It's what I have done with every game in th series so far. Except this time i'm a bit early and as a result 358 is only just about to release in Japan.

That's an interesting perspective on things.
With BBS and 358/2 Days coming out, there's a slight chance the Disney aspect won't be a criticism anymore. BBS seems more "mature" than the series as a whole and 358/2 Days will be nice change of pace from playing the game as Sora who, as much as like, needs to back off and take nice break.
Roxas > Sora
The time it takes for games to be released is quite lengthy, espescially with BBS.

I kind of feel that they're not doing enough with Sora, even with all the time he stuck around in the series. I even feel that they're not doing much to make him likable, which kind of goes hand in hand with that. It feels like they're giving Riku too much in so little time, and same could be said with Roxas. It's almost like Sora is the action guy and Riku and Roxas are the writer's pets.

You maybe the first person I've met in a while that doesn't believe Sora's story hasn't been beaten to death, which is the general feeling among many I know who play the series. I must admit though, I'm tad bit tired of Sora's plot in the KH series. Re: Chain of Memories almost made me hate the franchise. With 358/2 Days, it's nice they'll focus on Roxas who IMHO is more likeable and interesting character than Sora. I lost interest in the series for a while but when the new games were introduced and heard Sora was not a main character for either them, I quickly renewed interest!

Done to death? Sure, if you consider "done to death" as just him playing the tourist.
They just don't DO much with Sora with the time he has in all 3 games in the market currently. All they make him do is roam around different worlds just trying to find 1 - 2 people. Then, go "RAWR Organization! D<" They don't make him grow in any way, and there's a million ways to make him grow as a character without him making a complete 180. They save all that for Roxas and Riku. >_> Again, they're practically the writer's pets. And, with characters like that overshadowing him even with all the screen time he's given...is kind of sad.
Course, expecting Shakespeare out of KH is pretty foolish too. =/ Meh, I'm going in circles with this rant. [/ends rant there]

LMAO! I can agree with that.
At least the new games we won't hear Sora whining about how he can't find his boy.... I mean Riku and Kairi. I swear as I replay the games over, Sora is indecisive of who he wants to save/be reunited. It's either Kairi or Riku or vice versa, seldom you ever hear him mention them at the same time.
