Utada Hikaru has turned down Disney to do the Kingdom Hearts III Soundtrack:

She turned it down because Disney didn't pay enough.
Dunno how true the Hannah Montana replacing her thing was but I'll keep an ear open.

That same snippet has been around for a while, I'm not surprised. Utada has said that she dislikes having to translate lyrics and Disney commissioned her do to both: I feel thought that a compromise could be met if Nomura pushed for it, as he is such a fan of her work. Who knows what will happen, though. Especially if they follow the same formula they've done for FF XIII.

There is no artist I want to hear singing a KH theme song unless it's Utada. Which means I would prefer a new, unknown name over somebody famous in the US.

Miley's not even a threat, by the time KH3 comes out Disney and Miley will have severed all ties because that's just how it happens once Disney stars lose their shows.

'spose KH3 will be a frikin' expensive Game to produce, but they neeeed to get Utada back! Unless they can find a good replacement, which Miley Cyrus isn't, nothing against her but just keep your Miley away from my KH.

:/ When I first heard "MY Hands" I thought it would suck as part of 13's Theme but it actually does fit nicely in the trailers (And the awesome looking EU TV Ad which I just saw in HD at the pub lol) so yeah maybe.
BUT if so, I think that they should record an entirely new song rather than just plucking from her albums imo.

On instinct, I thought that would not be a bad idea at all.

On further thought, her style of song doesn't fit with KH. Disney's going to have a helluva time looking for a replacement.

I thought the Game Developer would be in charge of paying for the Theme song / general Soundtrack anyway, Ias it is just as much a part of the development as anything else. I guess with budgets going into millions on AAA releases, from a revenue point of view it makes sense... or is it some other reason?

They could pull it off without Utada. I mean, I believe Disney Japan would have been commissioning her for the song. It just would break from the rest of the series.

They're still allowed to reuse Hikari/Simple and Clean and Passion/Sanctuary, right? I mean, that may be what they'd end up doing if they couldn't find a suitable replacement.

I guess so but I picture it like this: KH is split into 2 "Chapters", the KH1 chapter (BBS, KH and CoM) and the KH2 chapter (KH2, 358, Coded). They used simple & Clean and Sanctuary respectively, so for the KH3 and it's side stories, they'd want another theme to represent it.
