Ok...I was going to remove this topic (or edit this post at least) and post it over on the Ultimania subforum...but apparently I can't post a topic over there. Anyway, this is still relevant to this forum especially as it deals with Kingdom Hearts and the first game as well.

I did a search for Ultimania translations on the site, since I'm trying to find word of Tetsuya Nomura saying anything along the lines of that he "re-created" (put in) the Disney characters in his game/games accurately. However there are so many results upon searching for those, and most of the translations I see are provided by Ryusuke, major props to him.

I'm inquiring mainly about Genie. I don't know why (sort of do, actually) though some people seem to like to claim/believe that Genie in KH is less capable ("weaker") than the one in Disney. Meaning, no, he cannot grant you any three wishes.

With all the Japanese Ultimanias of KH1, 2, interview with the KH team and so forth, is there anything that confirms they did not butcher the Disney characters when putting them in their games? Sorry if I'm asking for too much...or if this doesn't belong here, but this is the closest forum I found.

I placed this in the KH1 forum, since Genie in KH1 claims he could do it. It's all that's required to show he has the same wish granting abilities of Disney Genie rolleyes.gif. Nonetheless, asking kindly if there's any further info from the team that made KH/Tetsuya that Disney characters were not power stripped, or at least anything regarding Genie's abilities.

First and foremost, Disney watches Square pretty closely and though they loosened their grips when it came to the worlds Nomura of course kept their images as close as possible to their original counterparts. So, on one hand Disney would never allow a "butchering" of their characters, and Nomura wouldn't want to even if they hadn't cared.

TechTV: How much freedom did you have when it came to the Disney characters and worlds?

Nomura: Overall the process was quite smooth. There weren't any big restrictions or a set of guidelines we were given. Disney has its worlds already created, and there's no reason for us to change that, so it wasn't to a point where they had to lead us and take our hands. It was more us trying to bring out the best of what is already made as far as Disney characters go. The only thing we were careful of doing was staying within the characters' established roles and what kind of dialog these characters should have. That's something we all tried to stay within certain boundaries on.

Well, Genie as he is in the regular Disney canon is not all-power. He states in the movie that he cannot make someone fall in love with someone else and he will not raise someone from the dead. In Kingdom Hearts I'm guessing it's much the same, but since there's no concrete concept of death, nor do main characters get involved romantically it's never a plot point so it's not mentioned.

That was actually beautiful, thanks. I did not need this to be honest but adds well to what I already have (character profiles in Jiminy's journal and on official KH sites by SE, game quotes, etc.).

I know he's not all-powerful in that regard. He does have those restrictions (as well as being imprisoned or serving a master). Other than that, anything goes.

Would be even more thankful if you found a Q&A with Nomura about the Final Fantasy characters when putting them into KH.

The biggest rumor I have been reading/hearing for years is that "FF characters in KH are weaker", and I tell you it's not surprising the type of people who've been saying this.

Yes, they most likely don't have their overdrives/limit breaks and usual FF spells but weaker? Big speculation AFAIK, besides ones that are obvious such as the Destiny Islands inhabitants, Yuna+Rikku+Paine and Sephiroth, being the dark part of Cloud and all.
