Well, just finished Terra's story.

Minor complaint, will become a slightly larger one if the rest of the game doesn't answer what I need to know: Obviously, I still have 2 more endings plus the final episode and secret ending, but I'm kinda bummed that it looks like Terra didn't himself become the Xehanort from the main series. I'd been hoping that this game would be the story of that Xehanort's origins, but instead it turns out he was evil all along. So, no great pivotal tragic fall on Terra's part, like Revenge of the Sith, but instead it's just the same Xehanort doing the same old things he did in the main series, but in the past -- more like that Pendulum arc in Bleach. Not a sexy twist, but closer to a straight line, really. I personally find it less dramatic that way, but who knows. Plus, it means that inside 'Ansem' and Xemnas' bodies is an old bald guy, which seems kind of weird. Well, whether it's Terra or MX who is the main Xehanort we've known and loved (don't tell me), I want to know that Xehanort's origins, his start to darkness, and I hope BBS answers that before it's over, including the secret ending.

Now, I also think it would have been better if those origins were with Terra, since the game is about him, than with MX, since the game is not about his youth on Destiny Islands where it looks like he took his first step towards darkness (I presume he was the silver haired guy on the Islands). Hell, there was only like 1 scene of him in the beginning so far, and that's an extremely interesting aspect of the story to me. It's a shame that even though they opened up that part of Xehanort's beginnings, which I find more interesting than Terra's story by far, they seem to be leaving it largely unexplored, which is a damn shame. If MX is the real Xehanort, I want to know more about him, not a guy who just happened to be his vessel, a guy whose inner darkness didn't have consequence for the story other than allowing him to be a vessel. I really hope there are more scenes of young MX on the island, but I'm expecting I'm wrong on that.

So yeah, more scenes of the young MX(?) who said "This world is much too small" are what I'm hoping to see. Those words alone, once I realized who he probably is, gave me chills, because those words sounded like a hint of the dark, power hungry, ambitious Xehanort from the past games. As it turns out, MX as an old man didn't remind me much of that young man or of the later main Xehanort, mostly because a lot of his dialogue and secret reports were about a balance between light and dark, which would be consistent with his younger, not yet fully evil self, but not with the "SUPREME DARKNESS" obsessed Xehanort from later. Get what I'm saying? Will Ven and Aqua's story or anything else show me why he claims to be in favor of a balance, even in his private reports, while he clearly doesn't act like he is? Will I see why this seeming change of heart/disparity? I can't imagine that not being revealed, since they seem like part of his currently-to-me murky motives ("living to see what's past the Keyblade War" didn't even make sense to me, since it happened in the past), so it's really not yet a big complaint at all. No spoilers please, of course, just yes or no answers if anything.

Well, that's all I have to say in review so far. Reeaaaallllyyy hoping the rest of the game doesn't let me down on that part of the origins. But obviously, I know I could easily be wrong about some things I said since I haven't finished all the stories yet. Oh and sorry for the slight WoTs, heh

I think you're looking at it from the wrong perspective.

First, Terra does have a "great pivotal tragic fall." His ending is text book tragic hero, having been consumed by his own mistakes.
I personally find it to be better this way. Rather than the generic idea of him becoming evil, the Xehanort we know quite literally has a split personality, two alter egos which influence him. As Nomura states in the Ultimania, Xemnas appears to be more influenced by Terra (naturally, since it IS his body and soul), while Ansem SoD is more MX (again, naturally, since it was he who took over Terra's heart). It makes for an interesting character study, since the subsequent Xehanort incarnations can no longer be said to have black and white, cut and dry motives. For example, Xemnas wanted to find the Chamber of Waking in order to find Ven, his "friend." And yet look at all of the heinous deeds he commits. It's as if he holds Terra's goals, but uses MX's means (lacking any moral restraint).
This is something that apparently will be addressed in KH3D- just how much Xemnas was Terra and how much he was MX.

Also, while I'm sure MX's childhood could be explorable, I'd find it by and large redundant. From the little we know of him, sounds as though he took the same route as Riku did. It's an example of history inevitably repeating itself.
Moreover, this game would have never shown you the development Xehanort had to "SUPREME DARKNESS" for the simple fact that we already know that develops over his apprenticeship. That is yet another thing Nomura says may be fleshed out.

Personally I found Terra's to be the quickest, I was done in 7 hours.(About 10 as ventus, and I'm not done with Aqua but, seeing how slow I'm going I bet she'll be the longest one)

As Grassy said, it's a no. But the Xehanort reports reveal MX's thoughts. Sooo plot points about MX through his reports. I was glad I ended up collecting them, you know, aside from unlocking the final story and all.

I'm not sure how it only developed during his apprenticeship. From Ansem's reports in KH2 if I remember right, it was pretty strongly hinted that Xehanort already had a dark sort of aura around him. And if he had MX inside him, who was already steeped in darkness, it couldn't have just come out of the blue during that time.

Well, yeah, MX lays the foundation for his views on the darkness. However, Ansem SoD is on the more extreme end of the spectrum compared to MX. MX sees darkness as a means to an end (or rather, a new beginning- what awaits beyond the Keyblade War), and Ansem SoD sees it as an end in itself. There's a transition. He goes from advocating darkness in order to create a balance to just wanting to destroy the light entirely.

And as we see in the Ansem Reports, it's not as if Xehanort the Apprentice starts out with these extreme ideas about darkness. A natural inclination toward it, sure.

I don't think they're even thinking of starting on it yet since they're coming out with other KH games and such.

Ok, finally beat the 3 main stories and just have the final episode left.

I think after playing through 3 times, I'm finally just as emotionally connected to these guys as in the other KH games.

And may I just say, Aqua's final battle, Braig? As soon as the fast part of Another Side started playing and I realized I would finally get to do a boss fight with Another Side playing in its original quality, I was SO FUCKING EXCITED. GODDAMN that gave me CHILLS. Sure it wasn't technically agaisnt an Organization member, but close enough! Braig is a lot more interesting than I remembered, since Xigbar was pretty mysterious in KH2 and especially FM2. But I doubt I'll learn much more about him this game huh?

Also, I know the final episode is a final fight against Xehanort, though thankfully I haven't been spoiled on the ending too much. Do I have to level up much for that? I beat Aqua's story at lvl 33, and I'll probably aim for at least another 2-3 before the final battle, but should I do more? I don't want it to be too easy, but I don't want to get a stomach ulcer either.

Anyway, yeah, those are some of my thoughts so far. Given that I'm about to go into the final episode, knowing basically what it is, to quote every single Star Wars character ever, "I have a baaad feeling about this"

Note how his eyes changed to gold and his ears became pointed like MX in the final fight. In the secret ending, MX says that he has prepared many "roads" to take in case things don't work out with Terra, and I'd imagine Braig is one such road.

His motives are pretty obscure, but that's what makes him a great character. He's the dark horse.

You're fine where you are if you ask me. I think I was in the low twenties when I beat him. A huge pain in the ass, but not impossible.

If you want to know the ideal level to be, ask yourself what level you were for Terra's final boss. And if that fight was satisfying, then you ought to be in that level range, or maybe even a bit lower.

His first phase is almost exactly the same as it was in Terra's story. But actually a bit easier, only because you're playing as Aqua. Some of his attacks (eg the Dark Impulse where he comes up through the ground) are MUCH easier to dodge since the cartwheels are better than the sliding dashes. Plus, he doesn't have that super annoying attack where he raises meteors from the ground and hurdles them at you.

I will say this: If you get by the first phase no problem, the second phase will be even easier. Still a very satisfying fight simply because of the shock factor.

I did it lvl 36, it went pretty well.

If I thought I was blown away by Another Side playing with Braig, when the final battle theme started playing with Xehanort, I was jaw-dropped. The whole scene and the whole fight was wonderfully intimidating, and that music just screamed power, fighting Xehanort at the peak of his rise which just happens to be right before his "fall."

So yeah, it was great, the secret ending was nice too, although I can't believe Aqua's hair didn't grow at all in 10+ years when Riku's grew in one. Also, I kind of wish Ansem and Eraqus had actually died, not because I dislike them, but c'mon, I don't want this turning into Bleach where nobody stays dead. It was nice to see Aqua hear about Sora too. I can't imagine that she won't play a part in the next main game, assuming Sora actually gets her out of there.

By the way, that adventure Sora seems to be going on in the end, is that his Coded adventure? Cause it didn't seem like Kairi or Riku would be part of it, and they better be part of KH3.

Yeah, I loved it. I'm just pissed now that I have to lvl up all 3 guys to god knows what level if I want to beat the 2 secret bosses to get all 3 those bonus keyblades. That's not even including having to win 21 command board games to get the Ultima Weapon for all 3. And then to do it allll over again and more when FM comes out. Sigh.

Yeah, I was surprised that they didn't divulge why they wanted to break in to the castle. Their rebelliousness still shows ten years later considering that they were planning on toppling the Organization.

Whatever their intentions, I think we know at least one outcome. Something happened to Isa. He became one of the "roads" MX could take- hence the yellow eyes and pointy ears on Saix.
I'm guessing that Lea and Isa are two of the people Xehanort ended up experimenting on and stowing their bodies away in the basement.

If I thought I was blown away by Another Side playing with Braig, when the final battle theme started playing with Xehanort, I was jaw-dropped. The whole scene and the whole fight was wonderfully intimidating, and that music just screamed power, fighting Xehanort at the peak of his rise which just happens to be right before his "fall."

So yeah, it was great, the secret ending was nice too, although I can't believe Aqua's hair didn't grow at all in 10+ years when Riku's grew in one. Also, I kind of wish Ansem and Eraqus had actually died, not because I dislike them, but c'mon, I don't want this turning into Bleach where nobody stays dead. It was nice to see Aqua hear about Sora too. I can't imagine that she won't play a part in the next main game, assuming Sora actually gets her out of there.

By the way, that adventure Sora seems to be going on in the end, is that his Coded adventure? Cause it didn't seem like Kairi or Riku would be part of it, and they better be part of KH3.

Yeah, I loved it. I'm just pissed now that I have to lvl up all 3 guys to god knows what level if I want to beat the 2 secret bosses to get all 3 those bonus keyblades. That's not even including having to win 21 command board games to get the Ultima Weapon for all 3. And then to do it allll over again and more when FM comes out. Sigh.

Well, remember, time elapses differently in the Dark Realm. A moment is like an eternity. So Aqua really doesn't age. It's basically Nomura's excuse so that he doesn't have to make a new character model.
Riku, on the other hand, was out of the Dark Realm by the beginning of CoM.

Ansem surviving I saw coming a mile away, but while Eraqus'heart being in Terra was a surprise, it makes things unnecessarily convoluted. This is Xehanort we're talking about. Two hearts fused to make a new being, and then the fused heart splits from the leftover vessel to make two more beings- I don't think we need another heart added to the equation.

The adventure Sora is going on isn't for coded (the Sora in that is a "data" version, not the real one), it's for KH3D.

Sora and Riku are actually going to take a Mark of Mastery exam under Yen Sid because Xehanort has returned (as we knew he would since.. what? 2007?).

Since you'll play as both Sora and Riku in KH3D, I think it's safe to say that Kairi's sitting on the sidelines yet again.
