My guess is that they wanted to put some variety in how you can hold a Keyblade. It can be held various ways and they just didn't want to be doing the same thing over and over again. Plus I think it's coool how's he holds it backhand, in my opinion, it made him stand out and that's why I always know Ventus holds the keyblade backhand.

With backhand, it is easier to swiftly move the keyblade from one hand to another while sustaining a firm grip.
That's just my opinion though

I mean, wouldn't holding keyblade with backhand reduce air friction when moving forward?
That way, he could move faster.

Yes, putting your sword to the same level of your head and your hand stretching outward so that anyone can chop it off is the best pose ever!

Yes he does, but that pose is too inconvenient, it takes more unnecessary arm movement to use and it forces you to move your wrist upwards, which is much more limited tha moving it to all directions like you can do with holding it fornt handed.

You seem to have something against normal poses...

You mean Ahsoka? Whose fist appearence was in 2008?
To me, the coolest stance is Master Xehanort's, just holding it with one hand and the other ins his pocket, like he doesn't even care.

To me, I don't think Sora's stance is odd at all. I mean, like other people said, his stance is like showing that he's good at defending himself. I think his stance can show that he can attack and defend at the same time depending on the situation. I think it looks cool and his stance is my favorite stance out of all the characters who has weapons. But on the other hand, Ventus' backhand and stance I like; he's getting ready to attack and I like it how he swings his keyblade or I thinking it was spinning, but not as much as Aqua's. Besides Sora's, Aqua's would be also my favorite because it shows her elegance and strong attitude.

Ahsoka wasn't the only Star Wars character who held her lightsaber backhanded. Adi Gallia was the first to demonstrate the technique in 2002 for the playstation game Star Wars Jedi Power Battles.
I never said I had anything against Sora's pose. I said that his pose was the oddest of them all.
And yeah, I agree with the Master Xehanort one. One handed his keyblade like a boss.

Exactly. I don't think Ventus looses timing on his swing at all. Because he's using offense attacks with his blade, and also defending himself from attacks quicker than others since he wields his keyblade backhandedly.

I think its freakin awesome.
I care!
I think it looks dumb.
It wouldnt be AS dumb if he didn't spin his Keyblade while fighting.
It would make more sense if he had Sora's.

I doubt Nomura played Jedi Power Battles.
And eve if he did, he wouldn't use Adi Galia when there was the much more awesome and yellow light sabered Plo Koon.

But then again and this is just my opinion. But maybe the reason why Ventus holds his Keyblade backhand is probably because Nomura wanted him to be at least different from Sora. So, in that way, people don't go thinking that Ventus is just another "clone" of Sora or vice versa. To me, Ventus' backhand is unique.
