I had been playing the first game and after awhile I had been looking at the sequels, I wonder if KH still had its magic from the first game. When I played the game, it wasn't too complcated as it was basically about saving the universe wheile trying to find Sora's friends but then the whole Org. XIII came up, Nobody and Keyblade War came up.I know this a Disney game and Disney is notorious for milking its franchises but still has KH lost the orignal flavor that made it so awesome?

I've always felt that the KH series has lost a lot of its charm after KH2 came out. KH2 was okay story-wise, it could of been better, but it wasn't horrible. However, KH2 did a major blow to the KH gameplay, being ungodly easy and coming with too many bells and whistles (with Drives, Uber-Summons, ungodly-strong abilities, and Limits). They wouldn't have been too bad if enemies and bosses in game actually presented a challenge (there was a time I feared Xaldin, but as of my most recent playthrough I've realized that even he doesn't present much of a problem). Of course, Days and BbS bring it back to its roots.

Story-wise I feel that BbS (while I LOVE the game) really (as many people have noted) convoluted the story and supersaturated the KH universe with new twists and plot points (for example, making the origins of Xehanort known, but still further confusing audiences). I think the biggest problem with KH now, which is pretty commonly recognized, is that it's no longer just a "pick up and play" game.

To understand KH in its most basic form you have to play KH1, CoM, and KH2.
In order to make sense of any future installment you'd have to play BbS.
To fill in some blanks that have been presented, but aren't completely necessarily to be played would be 358/2 Days and Coded.

So, in it's most basic form at the current, you'd need a PS2. Easy enough.
To get future installments you'd need a PSP. Not too bad.
To fill in the blanks, you'd need a DS. That's where things get sketchy (I don't feel many people own both a PSP and a DS...).

So... yeah, I think KH's biggest problem is how its games are all over and how you cant just jump on the KH bandwagon that easily anymore..

I agree with your points here. KH2 felt like they shoved WAY too many ideas onto one title. They should've saved some ideas for the next major KH game instead. Also didn't like how they added Pirates of the Caribbean into it to milk that franchise more. <_<

I personally thought the Drive Forms were unnecessary. I especially didn't like having to level them up just use my old abilities from KH1.

Well, I think Nomura (the creator of Kingdom Hearts)is trying to create a franchise for this. Like how Final Fantasy made their mark, with just a simple quest now to a more interesting and unique storyline.

For me the story's complexity is what leaves me to craving more. Sure it would be kinda tough for a first time player to pick up but its possible, as is the case with other games, tv shows, movies, etc. The way I see it its like the game matures with me. When it comes to the charm aspect of the series, I find it in the Disney elements, and the emotions the characters radiate.

However the gameplay has become kinda easy and one dimensional for me since KH2. KH1 has puzzling and platforming to some degree and spells/summons actually meant something. Now its fight heartless, next room, fight heartless, next room, cut scene, fight heartless, boss...oh well-nothing critical mode cant remedy.

To me (in my opinion), I don't think Kingdom Hearts has lost its touch because without playing all the games so far, then some people would be confused or question a lot more. Kingdom Hearts, in my opingion, is like a puzzle and you just need to put the pieces together. That's all.

I like it how you say "EPICER and EPICER". That's a good one. When Birth By Sleep came that's when everything started coming together and since everything has been caught up to the present. Everyone should be concentrating on Dream Drop Distance.

Your welcome. Besides, I feel that Kingdom Hearts hasn't lost it because I really like it and Sora is still this upbeat kid and especially after seeing the new game coming out, all the pieces are going to be put together.

Even though KH2 was pretty dark. KH DDD is bringing back the classic KH1 feel. With all of the colorful carnival like style in KH DDD. Kinda reminds me of Sonic Colors. LOL.

Now, that you mention it, the the new Districts of Traverse Town looks so lively and detailedly drawn, (if that made any sense).

It looks pretty awesome. It does remind me something off of a Sonic game. It brings that magical kingdom type feeling.
