If you are starting from the beginning, simply follow the Walkthrough; it will give you everything you need to know. If you are partway through the game, skip to the Flowchart section and find your place. From there you can jump to the part in the Walkthrough that you need. If you are just looking for help on completing Jiminy's Journal, you can look at the "Filling out Jiminy's Journal" section of the Walkthrough if you're just beginning, or take a look at the sections that come after the Walkthrough for specifics. The sections are even laid out in roughly the same order they appear in the Journal. If you're an obsessive freak (like me) and are maxing out everyone's stats, collecting all the weapons, armor, and accessories, you'll find all that too. I'll even write up some tips on the Gummi Missions. Have fun and enjoy! o=============================================================================o \ Contents / o=========================================================================o [1] Walkthrough ........................................... Roxas and his three friends Olette, Pence, and Hayner are discussing the recent crime wave in the town. The oddest thing about the crimes is that the friends can't even say the name of the stolen item, as if it doesn't exist anymore. When you gain control of Roxas, the game will walk you through the different controls. Use the left analog stick to move Roxas. You will also be taught to use the Reaction Button (or the Triangle button on your controller). Whenever you are able to use this action (whether on the field or in battle), a largely obvious green triangle will appear on the screen. The information about what the reaction will be will appear on the left. Reading the info is often useful while in the field, talking to people and inspecting things. In battle, reading the information is often a distraction and indeed is sometimes just too instant to read. While fighting, look for the green flash, and slam the Triangle button. When the lady that runs the Candy Shop asks you to find her cat, lock on to it (it's above her on the awning if you weren't paying attention during the cutscene). The cat will automatically be saved and this will trigger the next scene. When Roxas gets in a scrap with Seifer (Final Fantasy VIII) and his two pals Fuu and Rai (also from FFVIII, though originally named Fujin and Raijin respectively), you are prompted to choose a weapon (Vivi's there too, the quiet black mage from FFIX). These weapons are known as "Struggle" weapons used in Struggle fights, but right now you're just going to be using it to beat up Seifer. Depending on the weapon you choose, you get a stat boost. Regular club: +1 Attack Club with guard: +1 Defense Staff shaped club: +1 Magic Before the actual fight, you'll have a brief moment where you can hit Seifer a couple times during the tutorial. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | DUEL: Seifer [1B] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Seifer is very similar to his original counterpart in FFVIII. He holds his | | struggle weapon like his gunblade, and has the same attitude. This first | | fight shouldn't present much of a problem. If you're afraid of losing, you | | can focus on avoiding Seifer's attacks and striking when you feel it's | | safe. This can be good practice too, even if you decide that the "mash the | | attack button" strategy will work fine (which it does by the way). | | Attacking at same time as Seifer will stun you and him momentarily, but | | Roxas will recover first so take the time to pull off a full combo. Keep in | | mind that as you progress in the game, enemies won't be stunned as long as | | Roxas (or Sora), so parrying isn't always your best option. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' After the battle, Roxas will follow a strange figure into the woods. Follow the specter to the gates of the haunted mansion. You begin battle with the creature (which are called Dusks, and I'll be calling them that from now on by the way) with nothing but the struggle weapon you picked up a few moments ago. You cannot damage this enemy at first, but you can certainly practice your dodging. Also notice the reaction command that will constantly flash. Hitting the Triangle button when applicable will cause Roxas to nimbly dodge around to the backside of the creature (called Reversal). After a bit, Roxas will mysteriously obtain a new weapon. You can now defeat the beast. Use the reaction command freely to skirt around it and confuse it. In fact, if you pull off a couple quick hits (without finishing the combo), use Reversal, pull off a couple more hits, use Reversal again, etc. you can easily win this battle. Roxas will receive his stolen items back after the fight, as well as 150 munny. DAY 2 - I need mo' allowance! ----------------------------- CENTRAL STATION - STATION PLAZA THE OLD MANSION | | MARKET ST.: STATION HEIGHTS - MARKET ST.: TRAM COMMON - THE WOODS | \ | USUAL SPOT - BACK ALLEY - SANDLOT ----' When Roxas wakes up again, you are given the chance to save (actually, you have to stand inside the save point and press Triangle to continue). Afterwards, Pence will give you the TWILIGHT TOWN MAP. Roxas and his friends have decided that a long overdue trip to the beach is in order. The only problem is that they have no munny. Hayner's idea is to pick up some of the stray jobs around town that are posted on the bulletin boards in two areas. Why not? You start off in front of the first bulletin board, which lists three new jobs for you. Following are descriptions and strategies you can use while playing these games, and the amounts of munny you can gain from each. .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | JOB: Mail Delivery Difficulty: 1/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This is one of the easier minigames you'll encounter at the beginning. You | | have five letters to deliver, a running timer, and a skateboard. Start by | | skating down the street. Pass close to the first person to trigger a | | reaction command. Hit triangle to deliver the letter (1). Keep skating down | | the street, and skate under the bird. Hit triangle again to deliver the | | next letter (2). Skate up and deliver another letter to the next guy (3), | | and continue past him towards the railing of the ramp. Hit Triangle to | | grind down the railing, and don't do anything when Roxas jumps off at the | | end. The natural jump will carry you to another bird that needs its letter | | (4). In midair, turn around (you know, pull a 180, dude) and skate over to | | the girl wandering around the small square area to deliver the final letter | | (5). | | | | 50 munny ---> Under 00:20:00 | | 30 munny ---> Between 00:20:00 and 00:59:99 | | 10 munny ---> 01:00:00 or over | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | JOB: Cargo Climb Difficulty: 1.5/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This game is a little harder than the previous one. You have a timer | | running are you're asked to hit a bag of cargo up the hill. Start by | | locking on to the bag and performing aerial combos. Every three or so | | combos, the bag will bounce up into the air. If it comes back down on | | Roxas, you will take damage. To prevent this, quickly hit the bag while | | it's in the air. This will also send the bag flying a considerable | | distance. The hardest thing about this minigame is the fact that the bag | | will move left and right. If the bag gets caught up against the wall, try | | to keep it that way to prevent excess horizontal movement. | | | | 50 munny ---> Under 00:30:00 | | 30 munny ---> Between 00:30:00 and 00:59:99 | | 10 munny ---> 01:00:00 or over | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | JOB: Grandstander Difficulty: 2/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This is actually a very fun minigame that is reminiscent of the Rare | | Truffle game from the first Kingdom Hearts. You have 5 chances to keep the | | ball up in the air as long as you can without it touching the ground. | | Letting the ball touch the ground will cause you to lose one of your | | chances. Also, you'll have a score meter which will tell you how many times | | you've consecutively hit the ball while it's in the air. If you can manage | | to get the ball into the corner, it will minimize the distance it travels | | when you use a combo finishing move on it. | | | | 50 munny ---> 20 hits or more | | 30 munny ---> Between 5 and 19 hits | | 10 munny ---> Less than 5 hits | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' When you've had your fill of these minigames, head over to the bulletin board in Tram Common for three new ones. .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | JOB: Poster Duty Difficulty: 1/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Poster Duty involves going around the Tram Common area and putting up 20 | | posters in certain areas with the Triangle button. The areas that you can | | hang up posters on are marked as yellow symbols on the walls. Some symbols | | come in groups of 3, and you can hit Triangle repeatedly to hang these ones | | up fast. In particular, check the west side of the area near the stopped | | tram. There are three groups of three poster spots (in other words, 9 total | | spots). One you have to reach by jumping up on the tram and jumping to the | | roof of the adjacent shop. This one shouldn't give you much trouble at all. | | | | 100 munny ---> Under 01:30:00 | | 50 munny ---> Between 01:30:00 and 01:59:99 | | 30 munny ---> 02:00:00 or over | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | JOB: Bumble-Buster Difficulty: 2/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | You have a timer running and 2 waves of 4 bee swarms each to take care of. | | Your best bet is to start off by running at the bees and swinging wildly | | while they're still clumped up. Each swarm only takes about 2 hits. When | | you've defeated the first 4 swarms, the last 4 will appear. Again, try to | | take them out in groups for a faster time. | | | | 50 munny ---> Under 00:20:00 | | 30 munny ---> Between 00:20:00 and 00:59:00 | | 10 munny ---> 01:00:00 or over | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | JOB: Junk Sweep Difficulty: 2/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This game can be tricky if you don't know what you're doing. In the least | | amount of swings possible, you need to destroy 9 pieces of junk. The only | | way to break a piece of junk is to hit it with a combo finishing move. | | A good way to start is (without moving at all) to do a full combo, getting | | rid of four of the junk pieces (if you do the combo slow, you can get rid | | of five). This will leave 3 pieces in a line on the far wall. Position | | yourself behind the left one so that you can hit it into the other two when | | it launches (you may need to push it into position). This leaves 2, and one | | can easily be comboed into the other. | | | | 50 munny ---> 10 swings or less | | 30 munny ---> Between 11 and 14 swings | | 10 munny ---> 15 swings or more | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' When you have enough munny, head to Station Plaza and talk to Hayner. Tell him you're ready to go. You will then receive a boost to your AP, depending on how much munny you made during the day. If you have 200-799 munny by the end of the day, you will receive AP +1. If you have 800-1999 munny, you will receive AP +2. If you hit 2000 munny, the game will automatically progress and you'll get AP +2. It seems that if you're playing a different version of the game, the total you need for +2 AP is something like 1200 munny (thanks be to Simon for this tidbit). The grand total between the four friends turns always turns out to be 5000 munny. You receive a MUNNY POUCH from Olette, which Roxas hastily loses soon thereafter. After some depressing scenes, the friends go home and Roxas goes to bed again. DAY 3 - To the... beach? ------------------------ Head out of the alley to Station Heights for an interesting scene. When you gain control of Roxas again, you'll be fighting more Dusks. Again, you cannot damage the beasties with just your club. More exciting scenes ensue, and Roxas finds himself in an area that will be very familiar to you if you've played KH1. Again, you have to choose a weapon. Your decision here has a more lasting effect on you than the other decision did. The way your abilities and stats are gained (which order you gain them in, in other words) are affected by which weapon you choose here. Here's a big honkin' chart of the abilities you'll gain and when (thanks to Toby, who suggested this): .================================. | ABILITIES FROM NORMAL LEVELING | |================================================================. | LV | PICKED SWORD | PICKED SHIELD | PICKED STAFF | |================================================================| | 4 | Scan | Scan | Scan | | 7 | Combo Boost | Item Boost | Experience Boost | | 9 | Experience Boost | Combo Boost | Item Boost | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 12 | Magic Lock-On | Magic Lock-On | Magic Lock-On | | 15 | Reaction Boost | Damage Drive | Fire Boost | | 17 | Item Boost | Experience Boost | Combo Boost | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 20 | Leaf Bracer | Leaf Bracer | Leaf Bracer | | 23 | Fire Boost | Reaction Boost | Damage Drive | | 25 | Drive Boost | Drive Boost | Draw | | 28 | Draw | Drive Boost | Drive Boost | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 31 | Combination Boost | Defender | Blizzard Boost | | 33 | Damage Drive | Fire Boost | Reaction Boost | | 36 | Air Combo Boost | Jackpot | Negative Combo | | 39 | Blizzard Boost | Combination Boost | Defender | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 41 | Lucky Lucky | MP Rage | Thunder Boost | | 44 | Negative Combo | Air Combo Boost | Jackpot | | 47 | Drive Boost | Draw | Drive Boost | | 49 | Finishing Plus | Second Chance | Berserk Charge | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 53 | Thunder Boost | Lucky Lucky | MP Rage | | 59 | Defender | Blizzard Boost | Combination Boost | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 65 | Berserk Charge | Finishing Plus | Second Chance | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 73 | Jackpot | Negative Combo | Air Combo Boost | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 85 | Second Chance | Berserk Charge | Finishing Plus | |----|-------------------|-------------------|-------------------| | 99 | MP Rage | Thunder Boost | Lucky Lucky | '================================================================' Once you've chosen a weapon (you get the keyblade regardless of what you choose), you will be attacked by three Dusks. You should have no problem fighting them now, just make good use of the Reversal command. When you've defeated all three of them, your Bonus level will increase to 1. Whenever you defeat certain bosses or enemies, you'll gain a Bonus level (look at your Status screen to see what your current level is). Bonus levels are separate from regular levels gained through EXP, and the rewards include raises in stats, new abilities, and more item, accessory, and armor slots. BONUS: Aerial Recovery ability You can press start and equip this ability now if you wish. I suggest you start using it as soon as possible, because it's handy to have, but it's also easy to forget that you have it. After the battle, open the chest for a POTION. Save and head through the door. Fight the Nobodies on your way up the ramps (you'll gain a level if you fight a few of them). The chest on the second platform contains another POTION. There's another door on the third platform. Go through it. Similar to Sora's previous scenario, Roxas is hurled into battle with a giant intimidating enemy. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Twilight Thorn [1C] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Before you even have a chance to figure out how to hit this guy, the screen | | turns white and Roxas finds himself in the air, chained in floating energy | | shackles. The Twilight Thorn comes face to face with Roxas and pulls back | | its fist to swing. A reaction command (Key Counter) will appear suddenly. | | You'll definitely want to hit it as soon as you can; otherwise you're going | | to take a few punches. A successful Reaction will cause Roxas to dodge the | | blow and strike the enemy in the face, sending it flying. | | | | The Twilight Thorn will regain its composure, but now it will grab you from | | a distance (note that this will happen even if you don't pull off the | | previous reaction command). It will throw Roxas up into the air, and | | attempt to spike him into the ground. Again, you can use a reaction command | | (Lunarsault) right when you're nearing the creature's head. This will hit | | it back, but it will slink underneath the platform. | | | | You can run around now, but in a few moments, the creature will tip the | | platform upside-down. During the next few intense moments, Roxas will find | | a large (very very large) ball of energy between him and the Twilight | | Thorn. Things will pause for a second, and you'll be able to use the Break | | Raid reaction command. This will break the ball of energy and send both | | Roxas and the Twilight Thorn slamming back onto the platform. Take this | | opportunity to smack a few combos worth of hits into the enemy's head. Now | | the battle will start proper. | | | | - The only vulnerable part is its head. | | - It will swing its arm horizontally across the area. Jump to avoid this. | | - It will also swing its arms in wave patterns as it moves across the | | platform. Hit the head a couple times and run to the side. | | - After it does the previously mentioned attack, it will stretch out its | | head and start releasing arcs of energy. During this time, use the | | Reversal reaction command repeatedly to dodge the energy and get closer | | to the head. Attack when you have a chance. | | - It will also stand up and repeat the same energy arc attack. You can | | still use the Reversal command to gain some major air and reach the head. | | - While the energy arcs are flying around, the boss will also summon more | | Nobodies. They aren't that difficult to defeat on their own, but the arcs | | of energy might give you trouble. Stay on your toes and keep using the | | reaction commands. These Nobodies will give you a few big HP orbs when | | defeated, so keep that in mind. | | - If the screen turns white again, you will have to go through the really | | cool part from the beginning of the battle again. This is good, as you | | can stun the beast again. | | - When it's close to dying, the Twilight Thorn will turn into a sort of | | floating halo, and will shoot out more energy arcs than ever before. Once | | again, successful and repeated reaction commands will bring you to the | | head. Keep smacking away until you've defeated it. | | | | BONUS: Guard ability | | HP +5 | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Remember to equip the Guard ability you get as soon as you can after this battle. It's very useful, so make sure you learn to use it well. DAY 4 - I'm STRUGGLING to think of a good title ----------------------------------------------- ______________________ |======================| | ITEM SHOP | |----------------------| | Potion ......... 40m | | Tent .......... 100m | |______________________| '======================' Today is the day of the big Struggle event! Save your game and talk to the various people around the ring. Setzer is here, a lucky gambler originally seen in Final Fantasy III (Final Fantasy VI in Japan). You can go fight Seifer if you enter the back alley. If you've fought all the enemies up to this point, you'll probably gain a level by defeating Seifer. He's not much harder than he was before. He gives 13 EXP a pop every time you fight him, in case you wanted to level up more (you have to leave the area and re-enter to fight him again). How Seifer got to be such a bully is beyond me... You can also return to the job boards to earn more munny if you're interested. If you need Potions and are low on munny, this is recommended. You should have a good handful of Potions for now. (You can even do the poster promotion job for the event that's happening one area away!) When you're ready, listen to the rules of the battle, and then talk to the man in the center of the arena to begin the first fight. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | STRUGGLE: Hayner [1D] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Hayner has a few basic attacks, both aerial and ground combos. He also has | | a lunging stab attack, but they all should be fairly easy to avoid. | | Basically, just pull off a few combos, grab some spheres, and mess around | | until time runs out. You don't have to grab all 200 spheres; as long as you | | have the point advantage when the time runs out, you will win. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' After the fight you can mess around some more, or save. When you're ready to continue, talk to the ring dude. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | STRUGGLE: Vivi [1E] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Most of the time, when Vivi attacks, his club will grow pretty big, making | | it harder to avoid. His attacks are fast, but usually predictable by either | | his stance or something he says. Again, you can win this fight by staying | | off to the side after gaining an orb lead. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Time will freeze again (sheesh, Roxas will be an old man compared to his friends at this rate). You'll face three dusks, and another scene will ensue. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | DUEL: Axel [1F] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | The reason this battle is a duel is because there's no reward for winning | | or any sort of closure (no dying). | | | | Axel has quite a range, at least in front of him. His attacks usually don't | | reach peripherally, so you're sort of safe if you jump to the side when he | | attacks. As you jump, close the distance between you and Axel by swinging | | you keyblade and finish the combo. | | | | When Axel says, "Don't make me mad!", get out of the way quickly, or suffer | | being hit several times by his fiery wheels. | | | | Try to close the distance when Axel starts to crouch. If you don't hit him | | in time, get ready to block a powerful attack. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' When time returns to normal, a confused Vivi will stumble away. You are given the chance to wander and save before the final Struggle. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | STRUGGLE: Setzer [1G] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Setzer will spend some of his time acting pretty, so it should be fairly | | easy to get an orb lead on him and stay away. He does have a spinning | | attack with quite a long range (remind you of the KH1 Sephiroth fight?) | | that will knock quite a bit of orbs out of you if you get hit. | | | | In the end, it seems that Setzer is a bit out of practice, because for a | | defending champion, he really isn't too hard. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' If you win this battle, you'll receive a CHAMPION BELT. If you lose, you'll only get a MEDAL. Either way , you'll get "THE STRUGGLE" TROPHY. During a following cutscene, you'll get the CRYSTAL ORB and lose the trophy. DAY 5 - The Seven Wonders of Twilight Town ------------------------------------------ In case you're interested, Seifer is still available to pummel. :) Anyway, your friends decide that it's time to finish the independent studies project for school. There are seven rumors that Pence knows about. Strange things are occurring in the town, and your task today is to look for them. Head to the Station Plaza and enter Central Station to head over to the Sunset Terrace side of town. TUNNELWAY | SUNSET HILL - SUNSET TERRACE - SUNSET STATION | CENTRAL STATION -' Talking to Pence any time during this event will bring up a map with five of the seven wonders you need to explore. Ones that you've already investigated will be checked off. The first mystery is automatically solved, so that leaves you with four to investigate. First off though, let's grab all the treasure chests in the area. - Jump up on the tram in the southern part of town (stand in front of it and hit the reaction command twice). From here you can reach a chest with an ABILITY RING. You should equip this. - From here, drop down next to the tree. The chest here has a POTION inside. - Find the terraced stream running through the middle of the area. At the north end of it to the left is a chest with a HI-POTION. - All the way west near the entrance to Sunset Hill is a chest with another POTION. In the northeast corner of the area, Hayner is near an alley. Walk far into it and inspect the back wall with Triangle. You will now be asked to search the back wall, but will be placed at the beginning of the alley. Avoid the balls shooting out at you and hit Triangle again as soon as you make it to the wall. The friends shrug off the occurrence as something not really out of the ordinary for some reason. The next wonder is in the tunnel near the north end of that terraced stream. Press Triangle to enter the tunnel. Three Vivis will appear and attack. They aren't too hard, as a hit or two will take out each one, but the major problem is that more of them will keep appearing. You'll end up fighting six at one time towards the end of the battle. Keep up the attacking, and if you're getting overwhelmed, just use the Guard ability and run away to use a Potion. Roxas' reaction to this wonder seems a bit more appropriate. After that, exit the tunnel. In the southwest corner of the area, there's a waterfall coming out of the side of a building. Inspect it with Triangle. Your doppelganger will come out of the waterfall (!) and start attacking. It's a bit slow, so the best way to fight it is to pull off a combo, back up for a bit while it attacks, and then combo again. Repeat this until it's defeated. Now head into the Sunset Hill area and inspect the bag with, you guessed it, Triangle. This minigame is pretty fun. Run up to the bag and jump on it (with Triangle, of course). When you're on the bag, its stamina will go down (displayed on the bar in the upper-right), and when you fall off the stamina will slowly be restored. Once you're on the bag, you need to watch out for when it's about to run into a trashcan. Press Triangle at the right moment to make it jump over. It will get very fast as the stamina bar reaches the low end, so be on your toes. Turns out there was a dog in the bag. I won't even get into the various ethical questions associated with dogs tied in sacks (long enough to start a town-wide rumor even), and strategically placed trash cans on top of a scenic lookout. After more discussion with Roxas and his friends, head back up Sunset Hill. Roxas sees a Disney-esque train, but his friends don't. Politely, they don't say anything to Roxas. Back in the Market Street side of town, head to Tram Common, and from there through The Woods to The Old Mansion. After some more plot development, Roxas goes to bed. DAY 6 - The final day --------------------- After a scene involving a frustrated Axel, you will be fighting more Nobodies. After the initial Dusks are defeated, an Assassin Nobody will appear. Make good use of the Guard ability while fighting these guys. They have an attack that can hit you up to six times if you're not paying attention (this attack is launched from when they're in the ground). Once that's done, leave the immobile Axel and head to The Old Mansion. Roxas uses the keyblade to unlock the gate and head inside. THE WHITE ROOM - FOYER 2F - LIBRARY 2F COMPUTER ROOM | | | | DINING ROOM - FOYER 1F LIBRARY 1F | | BASEMENT CORRIDOR - BASEMENT HALL The Mansion is crawling with Nobodies, so just watch yourself when exploring. If you run across the bottom floor to the far end with the huge window (in between the two staircases), you can open a chest for a HI-POTION. Enter the door on the west wall to enter the Dining Room. Inside, fight a couple waves of Nobodies, and collect the two chests for a POTION and an ELVEN BANDANA. Equip this on Roxas, as it will serve you better than the Champion's Belt will at the moment. Back out in the Foyer, head up the left set of steps. The chest halfway up contains a POTION. On the second floor landing, there's another chest with another POTION. Turn around after opening this chest and head to The White Room (west door on the second floor). After some explanation in regards to Roxas' identity, you will receive NAMIN'S SKETCHES and a MANSION MAP. Now head to the Library (the eastern door on the second floor). Roxas will use his newfound memories to finish the sketch on the table and open a downstairs section of the room. Head down and open the chest for a HI-POTION. Enter the new door. After the next scene, save and enter the next new door. Here you will fight four Dusks and two Assassins. Not too difficult. The bigger challenge is just around the corner. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Axel [1H] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Axel would be a hard opponent if it weren't for the fact that Roxas now | | wields both the Oathkeeper and Oblivion keyblades simultaneously! First, turn around and search behind the mansion's outer wall for a chest with a POTION (1/15). If you look at Jiminy's Journal, you can find a list of the treasures you've collected from each area. We can see that there's fifteen treasures total, so I'll keep track of them like I just did. To the right of the mansion's main door is a chest with a MYTHRIL SHARD (2/15). When you head back to town, you'll get a less than warm welcome from the gang at The Usual Spot. It seems someone is waiting for you at Station Heights, but let's explore a little first. You can go back into the forest and grab a HI- POTION, a MYTHRIL SHARD, and a POTION (5/15). In the Sandlot, you learn that Seifer is the Struggle champion in real life. You can't fight him yet, but it seems that there will be some sort of Struggle event held here in the future. Head to Tram Common next. Here you'll find a few chests: - Straight forward from where you enter from the Sandlot is a chest with a HI-POTION inside (6/15). - In the southwest corner behind the synthesis shop (previously the candy shop), you'll find a POTION (7/15). - In the southeast corner near the entrance to The Woods is a POTION (8/15). - On the roofs of the central buildings, you'll find two chests with a MYTHRIL SHARD in each (10/15). - On the north wall, left of the green-roofed building near a light post is a TENT (11/15). - From here, jump across the roofs to reach the blue-roofed building on the east wall. There's an AP BOOST in this chest, which you might be interested in using on Sora (12/15). In fact, you should probably make it a point to consistently use these on Sora from here on out, seeing as how there's so many of them and seeing as how Sora gains a lot of abilities. Head to Station Heights. If you have money to blow, pick up a new weapon for Donald and Goofy, but focus primarily on restocking Potions. When you're ready, head to Station Plaza. You'll be fighting waves upon waves of Nobodies here, and you should actually gain one or two levels with each character. After a while, Sora will get tuckered out. A shrouded figure comes to the rescue, however, and drops off a few items: the MUNNY POUCH, the CRYSTAL ORB, and SECRET ANSEM'S REPORT 2. The last time we saw the first two items, they were with Ansem! Now how did Mickey get them? When you enter the station, save your game and search around the area to pick up a HI-POTION, a TENT, and a MYTHRIL SHARD (15/15). Talk to Donald when you're ready to leave. Before the newly reformed team can do anything on their own, they must take the train to The Tower to talk to someone. The area in front of the tower has plenty of chests for you to loot when you arrive. Being in this new area increases the amount of treasures in Twilight Town to 22, so that's the new number I'll be using. The chests you can pick up now contain a POTION, a HI- POTION, and an ETHER (18/22). Once you approach the door, a scene with Pete will trigger. Pete will summon his gang of Shadows, which are easily defeated. At the mention of Yen Sid's name, Donald runs inside the tower. Sora follows him inside. For the moment, you can't go back outside. Save and grab the MYTHRIL SHARD and ETHER from the chests (20/22). Head up the steps and through rooms, fighting Shadows and Soldiers. The third room you reach will lead to Yen Sid's room. After he explains a few things, Yen Sid will ask you to read from a book containing valuable information for your journey. When you've had your fill of reading, talk to Yen Sid again for information on the enemies you'll be facing. Save your game and grab the TOWER MAP out of the chest (21/22). Enter the final room now. Grab the MYTHRIL STONE from the chest before talking to the fairies (22/22). When you're ready, talk to Flora (the red one). When the fairies calm down and stop arguing, they will befit Sora in his cool new duds. Also, you'll get a brief rundown of the Valor ability you can now use in battle, thanks to your garments. This new form is usable only if you have the correct amount of Drive in your gauge (in this case, a level of 3 is required). This new ability comes with the STAR SEEKER keyblade. You can't equip this as your main weapon just yet. When you get a third keyblade, you can take it out of the Valor slot by switching it with the third keyblade. When you regain control of Sora, resist the urge to use out your new form. It's best to save the Drive gauge for when you're in the heat of battle. Re-enter the Sorcerer's Loft to continue. Yen Sid will set you up with the Gummi Ship, and you'll be well on your way. On the world map, the only place you can land is Hollow Bastion. There's no flight stage for the Gummi yet. Go ahead and land. ~=============================================================================~ | 3. There aren't any new items in the shops (other than the Ether if you happened to pick it up; they go for 120 munny). Scrooge is in the area, so talk to him to learn about his new ice cream empire he's trying to build. He's happy to see Donald, a much more promising sign than Donald's nephews give (they don't seem to mind his one year absence; I guess they're really bent on being good businessmen). Near Scrooge is the Synthesis shop, which you can always find by talking to a Moogle. You will automatically drop off all your synthesis materials to the Moogle when you open the Synthesis screen. For getting one type of material to the Moogle, you get an ELIXIR. You can't make original creations yet, so just keep dropping off your materials at the various shops as the game progresses to unlock this mode. Past the Moogle is a new area (the Borough). Yuffie will greet you as you step in, but Dusks attack soon thereafter. Use the Valor form if you want, as it won't be available to use in the next major battle. After the battle, Yuffie invites Sora to Merlin's House, and gives him a MARKETPLACE MAP. Continue down the streets (there's only one way to go as long as you stay on the ground) until you come to a chest next to a door. The chest has a HI-POTION (1/5). The door leads to Merlin's House, but there are a few more chests to get in this area. Continuing down the streets, you'll find another chest with a TENT (2/5). Head up the nearby steps and keep going straight and jump up onto the ledge with the crane. There's a chest here with an AP BOOST (3/5). Turn around and run past the steps to the next chest. Open it for a DRIVE RECOVERY (4/5). Continue in the same direction to find the last chest with a MYTHRIL SHARD (5/5). Head back to Merlin's House (if you are lost, use first person view to look for the house with the umbrellas on top). Enter for a happy reunion of friends (Cid actually has a voice actor!). Leon cuts straight to the chase and asks Sora to help him out with the town's restoration. He wants you to follow him to the bailey. On the way out the door, Sora is stopped by Merlin, and the team is generally distracted. You do, however, get nice MEMBERSHIP CARDs, and the Blizzard spell (BLIZZARD ELEMENT). When Sora realizes he's supposed to be at the bailey, you regain control of him. Take the time to save. The bailey is past that last chest you opened up (the one with the Mythril Shard). While Leon shows Sora what's been plaguing the town, a voice from Organization XIII interrupts and sends some Nobodies to attack. Donald and Goofy run off to fight their own Nobodies, so it's up to you and Leon to protect the town gates. This fight may actually give you some trouble. Dozens of Dusks appear and many will start attacking the gates. It's game over if they happen to break the gates, so fight right in front of the gates to make protecting them somewhat easier. The other thing to worry about is your HP. The only orbs you'll get are MP orbs, so you'll need to rely on Potions to heal. Of course, the plentitude of MP orbs makes casting constant magic a piece of cake. When you've cleared away the gates, help Leon out by casting Blizzard into his enemies. Also, make very good use of the Reversal command, as it will confuse all the nearby Nobodies, and cease their attacks for a bit. After a while, a new Nobody will appear, called a Samurai. When facing this enemy, the reaction command "Duel Stance" will sometimes appear. During the duel stance, time will freeze and you need to search through Sora's menu to find "The End." Hit X to use the command and deliver damage to the Samurai. BONUS: Fire Element After some confusing parting words from a member of Organization XIII (even more confusing to poor Sora), you are left with SECRET ANSEM'S REPORT 7. Sora then discovers that his Membership Card is the key to unlocking the next two worlds. We have two choices on the world map. While you can go to either world, The Land of Dragons will prove to be the easier of the two at the moment. We'll head there first. To get there, you'll have to go through the Asteroid Sweep in your Gummi Ship. It's not too hard, once you get the hang of the controls. ~=============================================================================~ | 4. PALACE GATE | | | BAMBOO GROVE - ENCAMPMENT '-------------------------- IMPERIAL SQUARE When you land, you'll automatically meet Mulan... er, Ping. Mushu is there too, and he's happy to see Sora and co. Ping will join your party automatically as well. In this first area, open the chests for an ETHER, a MYTHRIL SHARD, and a HI-POTION (3/13). Talk to the Moogle to drop off synthesis items, and to buy anything you feel you need. Head down the path to the Encampment. Approach the mess hall line, and a brawl will ensue. The Captain comes, and Yao will calm down, but Heartless attack soon thereafter. During the following battle, you will need to keep up the morale of your party by collecting the balls that fall from the enemies. If the bar runs out, it's game over. You'll fight a few waves of Shadows, and then a couple of Nightwalkers, a new enemy. They can get annoying, especially since they attack fast, and often. After the battle, the Captain tells Sora, Donald, and Goofy that they did well, but unfortunately doesn't think the same about Ping, who he tells to go home. Sora insists that Ping has untapped potential, and asks the Captain for another chance. The Captain agrees to let Ping stay if he can pass some preliminary scouting missions. You get the ENCAMPMENT AREA MAP after this discussion. You can scour the area to the north (the Checkpoint) for treasure and experience before taking the Captain's missions. You can't go north or east here yet, but near the barred door is a chest with a MYTHRIL SHARD (4/13), and farther left of the door near the end of the fence is another chest with a HI- POTION (5/13). Fight the enemies here if you desire, and then head back and talk to the Captain. Of course, you could always attempt a mission and then come back to the Checkpoint before finishing all of them; the chests will be here, but the Heartless won't (thanks to Danny Amos!). .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | MISSION: The Surprise Attack Difficulty: 1.5/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This mission just involves fighting a few Nightwalkers and a dozen or so | | Shadows at the Checkpoint while keeping up the morale of your party. Not | | overly difficult. | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | MISSION: The Ambush Difficulty: 2.5/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | You'll start off the battle fighting a few Shadows, but you'll soon be | | pitted against Nightwalkers and a couple of Assault Riders. Use Blizzard to | | attack the Assault Riders from a distance, and use Guard a lot if it gets | | near you. If you are having trouble with this one, aim for finishing the | | event fast instead of trying to keep morale up. | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | MISSION: The Search Difficulty: 2.5/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This mission takes place in the Encampment. There are eight Heartless | | scattered around the area, and you need to find and defeat them all before | | your morale runs out. Start out by running around tapping R1 until you lock | | on to one. By the time you defeat the first one, the next on should be | | somewhat near you. Continue searching with R1. Fighting defensively is key | | because you lose morale balls every time you are hit. | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' For beating all three missions, you receive an AP BOOST. Head back to the Bamboo Grove and save your game. The Captain has one more task for you. He's authorized you to pass the checkpoint and scout up the mountain. Head north through the Checkpoint area when you're ready. You must complete the Mountain Trail area quickly, because that ol' morale bar is there again. Destroy the first group of enemies, and use the Rockshatter reaction command on the wall to destroy it (you'll have to hit Triangle twice if you notice). Repeat for the next wall to open up the main area of the Mountain Pass. Head right at the fork (ignoring the chests; we can come back for them in a moment when we're not under a time limit) until you come to the next wall to break through. Here, two Assault Riders will appear, one right after the other. You might be able to break through the wall without defeating them, but it's definitely risky to try. Your best bet might be to stand safely away and blast them with magic. When you reach the Village area, the morale bar will be gone for good. In the Village area, Mushu thinks he saw Shan-Yu go into the cave just north of the village. This seems to be Ping's chance to show the Captain what he's made of! You'll automatically receive the VILLAGE AREA MAP. First, let's go back and get those chests in the Mountain Trail area. Back in the Mountain Trail area, head straight forward to the platform with the two chests on it. Open them for a RECOVERY RECIPE and an ETHER (7/13). Jump down off the platform and head to your right. The chest on the ledge to the upper left has a MYTHRIL SHARD in it (8/13). Way down below near the beginning of the area is a chest with a HI-POTION (9/13). Head back to the Village. There's a Moogle here, so drop off your new Recipe and any synthesis materials you may have. Save and head northeast into the Village Cave. On your way in, you'll pass two chests, with a HI-POTION and an AP BOOST (11/13). The far room in the cave seems deserted at first, but suddenly it seems that Shan-Yu has lead you into a trap. Donald and Goofy are excluded from this battle, since they are on the other side of the barrier that appears. Shadows and an Assault Rider attack Sora and Ping. You should focus on taking down the Rider first, as it can deal a lot of damage in a short time. Unfortunately, using magic against this one will be tough because of the Shadows constantly getting in the way. Make good use of Guard, and attack the Rider when you can. If it hits you up into the air, don't forget to use the O button for your Aerial Recover ability. This gives you a unique edge in the fight. When it's dead, just combo all the shadows into oblivion (the Fire spell is useful for taking out several at a time, but you'll want to save your MP for the next wave). After the initial wave, two more Assault Riders attack. Now you will have an easy time using the Blizzard spell on both of them from a distance. BONUS: Sora: Slide Dash ability Ping: Hyper Healing ability HP +15 After that battle, Mushu claims that Ping will win acceptance in the captain's eyes, Shan-Yu or not. The party's victory hits a sour note as they head outside to find that the Village was burned down during the distraction. It's decided that Sora, Ping, and company will travel up the mountain to go after Shan-Yu. In the relatively small Ridge area, you'll encounter a new flying Heartless, the Rapid Thruster. They aren't too hard to defeat. If they get low to the ground and start to charge at you, hit Triangle for the Speed Trap reaction command. Hit Triangle again at the end of the combo for the explosive Aero Blade attack. The two chests in this area contain a HI-POTION and another AP BOOST (13/13). Also in this area, you can have some fun with the whirlwinds. Use Triangle to launch yourself sky-high! In the next area, Shan-Yu is waiting with an army of Heartless! You are given the instructions to defeat all the Heartless, and this will probably freak you out until you realize that you actually have a minute to kill as many as possible. This is a fun little minigame, so make the most of it by going crazy and killing things as fast as possible. Using Speed Trap and the Aero Blade follow up can boost your kills dramatically. Also appearing as a new Heartless are the Bolt Towers. They can be quite annoying. The only weak point on them is the small round head that moves around a lot, and they bend backwards, only to spring forward again to create a shockwave. Get out of the way when they do this. If it snags you in its laser, rapidly hit Triangle to use Bolt Reversal. This will create a large explosion, killing other enemies. During the next events (quite similar to the movie), Ping is found out to be a woman, and the Captain isn't too happy. He repays Mulan for saving his life by not killing her for treason. Hm, thanks. Mulan will also get the Dragonblaze ability now, which adds the Red Rocket limit command to the menu. When you head back down to the ridge, you discover that Shan-Yu is still alive and headed for the Imperial City. Now, if you want, unequip the Auto-Limit ability from Mulan if you don't want to be using it all the time in the heat of battle. You should equip other abilities on her like Fire Boost, and maybe Hyper Healing. Head back down to the Checkpoint and head east. Also try to build up your Drive gauge on the way down if it's not at 3 yet. The Captain won't listen to Mulan when she catches up with him. Only when he sees Shan-Yu on the top of a building does he trust her and decide to fight along side her again. Heartless will suddenly attack again, and the Captain will run off to help the Emperor. The Heartless group consists of four Nightwalkers and three Bolt Towers. Get rid of the Walkers first, and then focus on the Bolt Towers one at a time. Enter the Palace gates area and approach Shan-Yu. The Captain will automatically save the Emperor, but Shan-Yu still needs dealing with. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Shan-Yu and Hayabusa [4B] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | During this battle, Heartless continuously spawn, and you'll have to worry | | about the strength of the gates. Killing Heartless will drop balls which | | you can pick up to reinforce the gates. | | | | As for Shan-Yu himself: successfully parrying or guarding one of his | | attacks will place you in a dangerous pushing match against him. Keep using | | the Push reaction command until Takedown occurs. Use this command to send | | Shan-Yu flying and do a considerable amount of damage. | | | | If, at some point, the Heartless are being overwhelming, use Red Rocket to | | decimate entire groups; just make sure you're pressing the Reaction | | commands at the right time. This will also cause damage to Shan-Yu. | | | | If all else seems to fail, go in to Valor mode and go all out on | | everything. | | | | By the way, you can target and hit Hayabusa (the falcon), but depleting its | | life will only cause it to leave temporarily. They won't realize where they are at first until they hear Beast's yells. Although the yells would seem frightening, the team is happy to hear their old friend. They then see a Heartless head into a side room, and they follow it. A huge number of Shadows will start attacking at this point. Use the Fire spell to take out as many as possible in short amounts of time. After a bit of fighting, Beast will come and administer a beating to the remaining Shadows... and even saves some of the beating for Sora, Donald and Goofy. What gives? He takes the rose and leaves without saying a word. After that, save and talk to the Moogle. You can and probably should buy a Silver Ring for Donald, and a Sardonyx Ring for Sora and Goofy. If you have the extra munny, buy another Silver Ring for Donald (since he has two slots). Head back out into the Entrance Hall. Donald will see the figure of a lady on the right-hand staircase. On your way up the stairs, a new Heartless will attack: the Hook Bat. They aren't generally a threat, but they can be annoying in numbers. If it swoops down low, get ready to use the Bat Cry reaction command to capture it and attack any nearby enemies. Before you go anywhere, turn around and exit the castle to the Courtyard area. There are three chests around the perimeter, which contain a HI-POTION, a MYTHRIL SHARD, and an AP BOOST (3/21). Head up the upper right steps in the Entrance Hall when you're ready. Sora and the team will break in on Belle, who will break the news to them: the team will need to break Beast's servants out of the dungeon if they want to break Beast's mean streak. Those are the breaks. After the conversation, open the chests for a MYTHRIL SHARD and a CASTLE MAP (5/21). Back out in the East Wing, another new Heartless will appear (although new to KHII, you will recognize it from the first game). Large Bodies are just as annoying as they were in the previous title, unless you know how to deal with them. One strategy is to sneak up behind them and pull off a combo. If you do this right, the last move in the combo knocks it up into the air. At this time, use the Full Swing reaction command to send it flying. While it's stunned, use Slide Dash to close the distance and repeat this process. If it happens to be not stunned while it has low health, it will start sliding around the area fairly fast on its stomach. If it's coming at you, use the Guard reaction command, followed by Kickback to pull off a combo. Again, you can use Full Swing at the end of this combo, which should finish the enemy off. Also, pick up the two chests in this area: a TENT and a HI-POTION (7/21). Back in the Entrance Hall, take the left stairs to the West Hall. Sora automatically walks a little ways into the room during the following cutscene, so turn around after the dialogue to pick up the two chests in the alcoves: a HI-POTION and a MYTHRIL SHARD (9/21). The suits of armor here have Drive replenishing orbs in them, so destroy the armor if you wish. Turn around and continue down the hallway. When you reach the next large set of steps, look to the right for a chest with a DRIVE RECOVERY (10/21). To the left of the steps are a TENT and a MYTHRIL SHARD (12/21). Note that you can't go up these steps because of the strong suits of armor in the way. Now talk to the dresser behind you. She seems to be adamant about sleeping in the same spot, which happens to be in front of the door that you need to pass through. You're going to have to push her by pressing the Triangle button rapidly (push from the left side). When she starts to stir, the Push reaction command will turn into Waken. Pressing Triangle now will wake her up, and cause you to lose some ground. Keep at it though, and you should have her out of the way in no time. Note that if you push her and press Triangle twice and then stop, you'll never get pushed back, since the Awaken reaction command appears sometime after the second push (tip sent in by Danny Amos, thankee). She apologizes for being in the way, and lets you through. In the next area, something strange happens at the gates. They seem to be moving, and they seem to be Heartless! _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Thresholder and Possessors [5B] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | The Thresholder has quite a long reach. You'll notice when it starts | | swinging wildly right at the beginning of the battle! If you approach the | | gates, a Gargoyle Warrior and a Gargoyle Knight will come to life and | | attack as well! Lead them out of range of the gates and deal with them on | | the other side of the room. | | | | Once you've gotten rid of the statues, approach the gates again. This time, | | four Hook Bats will appear. Again, fight these guys at a distance from the | | Thresholder. Up on the ledge is a good place. Approach again, and fight one | | more wave of Hook Bats. | | | | Now, run up to the Thresholder and deplete what's left of its HP (assuming | | Donald and Goofy were working on it). Quickly use Triangle to use the | | Release reaction command. This will release a Possessor from the gate, | | which you should quickly destroy (it poses no threat). The gates will get | | a refill of HP, and a new move. The Thresholder now shoots dark energy at | | you. Luckily, it's an easy attack to predict and avoid. Again, just deplete | | the HP of the Thresholder, Release the Possessor, and kill it. Use Valor at | | this point to speed things up. | | | | BONUS: Sora: Upper Slash ability | | Donald: Donald Fire ability | | Goofy: HP +5 | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Head into the newly accessible Dungeon area. Sora rescues Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Chip. Open the two chests for an AP BOOST and a BASEMENT MAP (14/21). Back in the Undercroft, jump up the pile of junk to reach Cogsworth. Talk to him to move the armor out of the way. The next area requires teamwork to manage. Cogsworth will hold the lever to let four lanterns down from the ceiling. Sora will use his keyblade with Mrs. Potts water to douse the dark flame in the lantern while Lumiere relights them. Lighting all four will open the exit. Use the Triangle button to relight each lantern. If Cogsworth needs more energy, go support him with Triangle. Also, you'll need to break the boxes in the way of Mrs. Potts and Lumiere. After that, Sora presses a stone in the wall to open the door. After the cutscene, turn around and grab the two chests: HI-POTION and a MYTHRIL SHARD (16/21). Also, before heading through the door, grab the chest in the doorway on your right for a MEGA-POTION (17/21). Then head through the door. By the way, from now on, statues all around the castle will come to life. For the Gargoyle Knights, Guard or parry one of their attacks to trigger the Release reaction command. This will automatically destroy it. For the slightly different Gargoyle Warriors, dodge their spinning attack to trigger the Release reaction command. Also keep in mind that both are immune to magic. Anyway, in this upper part of the West Hall, grab the chest with the AP BOOST (18/21), and then head north into the West Wing. The chest in front of you here has a TENT (19/21). The chest at the top of the steps to the right has a MYTHRIL SHARD (20/21). Head north, fighting enemies, to Beast's Room. The team will finally find out what's been making the Beast act so different. However, it's nothing a good old-fashioned beating won't solve. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Beast [5C] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This should be a quick battle. Attack mercilessly while slamming on the | | Triangle button to have Cogsworth talk sense into Beast. When you use this | | reaction command, it will stun the Beast momentarily. When his HP is gone, | | hit Triangle repeatedly to charge up Cogsworth for one last beg. This will | | win you the battle. If you mess it up, Beast's HP will be restored and you | | will have to start over. | | | | BONUS: Sora: Armor Slot | | Donald: HP +4 | | Goofy: Defender ability | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Beast will now join you to head to Belle's Room (look, he barely fits in the menu!) Turn around after the fight and empty the chest for a MEGA RECIPE (21/21). Save your game and make your way towards Belle's Room (you won't need to use the secret passage, the suits of armor have moved). Back in the Entrance Hall, you'll encounter a new Heartless: the Lance Soldier. They have quite a bit of HP, and a few strong attacks, so be wary of them. When they have low HP and lunge at you, use the Lance Tug reaction command to damage them and any enemy nearby. Upon reaching Belle's Room, you find she's not there. Save your game, and then head to the Ballroom (the double doors at the north end of the Entrance Hall). Something like a chained Darkball is chasing Belle around. When it sees Sora and the gang, it transforms the ballroom into an odd interactive area. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Shadow Stalker and Dark Thorn [5D] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | The first form of this boss you'll fight has four attacks that it uses in | | the following order: | | | | 1. It will head behind the glass (really cool looking) and send shockwaves | | across the room. These are hard to dodge, unless you're behind a pillar. | | If you can't make it there fast enough, try to find an opening between | | shockwaves. Here's a tip (courtesy of the inexhaustible wisdom of Danny | | Amos): when you see this attack about to occur, and can't scoot off to | | the side fast enough, run to the middle of the room. This way you can | | see and time the shockwaves as they come at you. | | | | 2. It will possess the chandelier. When it drops from the ceiling, jump to | | avoid the initial shockwave. Then, the chandelier will spin and shoot | | out beams of energy. Try to jump in and attack when you can. When the HP | | is out, use Release to resume the battle. | | | | 3. Now the Shadow Stalker will disappear entirely. Part of the floor will | | open up, eat Sora, and spit him out. To avoid this, look for the light | | traveling across the floor and jump. | | | | 4. It possesses a segment of pillars, causing them to move around (very | | creepy, I might add; reminds me of Beetlejuice) and attack. Lock onto | | darkest pillar and deplete its HP. Again, use Release to resume. | | | | Also, using Release tends to shoot out a lot of MP and Drive orbs. Keep | | that in mind. | | | | When the Shadow Stalker is defeated, the real fight will begin. The Dark | | Thorn will immediately become invisible. Lock on and run after it, hitting | | it as well as you are able. When Step Vault becomes available, use it to | | launch up to the Chandelier. Hit Triangle again to Catch it, and then use | | the Pendulum Round reaction command to hook the Dark Thorn and break its | | stealth. At some point, the creature will copy you and do the same thing. | | To avoid the chandelier, stand off behind the rows of pillars. | | | | If the Dark Thorn decides to throw you, very quickly get ready to use the | | Slingshot reaction command to ricochet back and hit the creature for a good | | amount of damage. This particular reaction command is a bit hard to pull | | off at first. Use Valor if it's available to you. | | | | BONUS: Sora: HP +5 | | Sora: Retaliating Slash ability | | Donald: HP +4 | | Goofy: Item Slot | | Beast: HP +35 | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Sora will use Beast's Rose to open the way to the next world. He also has a gift for you. The 100 Acre Wood book! He will leave for a bit to tell the others. In the meantime, Sora doesn't think it would hurt to give Pooh a visit. Talk to Donald to enter the book. Enter the area on the page that's popped up (Pooh Bear's House). Before talking to Pooh, take the time to open the chests around the area. You'll get the 100 ACRE WOOD MAP, an AP BOOST, and a MYTHRIL SHARD (3/3). Now go and greet Pooh. Something strange will happen, and Sora is rocketed back out of the book. Back outside, Sora is distracted by Heartless, while some Soldiers grab the book and start running. Administer a beating to the thieving Heartless to get the book back. Sora will now go back in to make sure Pooh is all right. Enter the same popped up area. Sora has the same conversation with Pooh Bear but he doesn't seem to remember Sora or Piglet, or probably any of his other friends for that matter. Sora exits. At this point, Merlin has returned, and of course scolds Sora for not waiting. Again, Sora will have to find all the torn pages to correct matters in the 100 Acre Wood, as the Heartless have run off with them again. Also, Merlin will give you the BASEBALL CHARM, which will summon Chicken Little. You are now automatically returned to the world map. Fortunately, they also meet up with Megara. She's here in the Underworld to convince Hades to give Hercules a breather. He's been sending constant monsters up, and Hercules is exhausted. Sora offers to help Megara, so you're off to see Hades. First off, talk to the Moogle here, and buy a Comet Staff and a Falling Star for Donald and Goofy respectively. Past Meg is a door to the Cave of the Dead. Enter. Here, a new Heartless called the Rabid Dog will appear. They don't pose much threat, and can be quickly and easily eliminated. Continue to the next area, and head down the passage until you reach a fork. Both ways will lead to the same place, but both have treasure, so you'll want to hit both. The left path has a MYTHRIL SHARD, an ETHER, and an AP BOOST (3/20). The right path has a HI- POTION (4/20). When you are at the end of this area near the entrance to the next, turn around and grab the MYTHRIL STONE in the chest (5/20). Now enter the next area, the Inner Chamber. Grab the MYTHRIL SHARD and the UNDERWORLD MAP from the chests (7/20), talk to the Moogle, and save your game. Head into the Valley of the Dead (greenish crack). In this area, there are three platforms connected by several narrow pathways. Expect a fight at each platform. You'll encounter a new Heartless too, the Creeper Plant. They usually stay away from you and shoot seeds. They have a reaction command, however. Use Root Ravager when it's available to uproot and attack the plant and damage surrounding enemies. Head across the platforms to Hades' Chamber. Here, Hades will summon none other than Auron to do his dirty work. Auron doesn't have to think twice about who he's working for, so Hades gets mad and attacks just as Sora and the team enter. Boss Battle? Not quite. In the Underworld, Hades cannot be damaged (makes sense, right?). Auron will join you, and you must fight your way back across the Valley of the Dead. When it asks you to switch out members, you should probably go into Auron's abilities and unequip Auto Limit from him. This will prevent you from accidentally using too much MP during the next section. During the following chase, you will be stopped at each platform to fight enemies before you are able to move on. To top it all off, Hades, in all his invincible glory, will be harassing you and distracting your teammates. Try not to lock onto him yourself. The fights get progressively harder, but save Auron's limit command for the second wave of the third platform. This is when you'll be fighting Lance Soldiers and a Large Body, and you'll want to take them out quickly. Sora cannot be hurt during the limit, so this is another advantage of saving it. Once you've cleared the third platform, Hades will disappear... for now. After that slightly embarrassing failed attempt, the team decides to go back up and talk to Meg. Unfortunately, Hades isn't gonna let you off that easily. Fight your way back to the Entrance where you will once again face off with Cerberus. Donald and Goofy don't quite make it back in before the invisible wall appears, so you won't have them for this fight. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Cerberus [7B] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | As soon as the battle begins, jump back to avoid the initial jump and | | resulting shockwave. It will jump like this fairly often during the battle, | | and it will actually be somewhat difficult to avoid the jump if Cerberus | | decides to jump ON you. The shockwave can usually be jumped over though. | | | | Also, Cerberus will spin around fast, swiping you with its tail. This | | particular attack is hard to predict, but you won't see it that often. | | | | Basically, the idea is to target any one of the heads and hack it madly. | | You really aren't in as much danger of getting bitten as you were when you | | fought it in Kingdom Hearts I. Just keep hacking away, healing when | | necessary, until Cerberus starts using new attacks. | | | | After a while, it will jump away from you and start coughing up dark balls | | of energy that come slowly raining down onto you. They are pretty easy to | | run away from. | | | | It will also start using an attack where it slams its two outer heads | | together in the middle. Even though it looks painful, you'll want to jump | | right into this attack to trigger helpful reaction commands. Sora will get | | pinched in between and hoisted up into the air. When the middle head goes | | to bite you, use Evade to put the keyblade in its mouth. Soon after, use | | Jump, and after that use Dog Paddle while in the air to knock it out. It | | will actually be stunned for a good amount of time, so just use as many | | combos as you can on it. | | | | A good time to use Auron's limit is when the beast is about to die (or | | whatever you call dying when you're in the Underworld already). Otherwise, | | conserve MP for healing. | | | | BONUS: Sora: Dodge Slash ability | | Auron: HP +40 | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Back at the Underworld Entrance, save and head up to the Coliseum Gates. Hercules appears at the gates, exhausted, but composes himself once he sees Sora. He agrees to give Sora a stone that will protect him from the Underworld's curse, but he has a match, and suggests that Sora talks to Phil for training in the meantime. You'll also get a COLISEUM MAP. Enter the Coliseum and talk to Phil. He offers you two training courses (you have to complete the first one to unlock the next). They really aren't that hard at all. .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | TRAINING: Practice Difficulty: 1/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | You are given a minute and a half to collect 20 orbs from the pots. Only | | the finishing move of a combo will break them. This is so easy you could | | honestly probably do it with your eyes closed. In fact, I have. | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. | TRAINING: Maniac Difficulty: 1.5/5 | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This challenge is barely harder than the first. It may seem like slow going | | at first, but once a big pot appears, smash it for 30 orbs! You need to | | collect 100 in a minute and a half to pass. If you actually are having | | trouble, try to smash the groups of pots as soon as they appear. You'll get | | around 20 orbs for each group like this. | | | | BONUS: Aerial Spiral ability | '-----------------------------------------------------------------------------' Afterwards, talk to Herc. He tells Sora that the Olympus Stone has been stolen by someone in a black cloak. Sounds like Organization XIII is messing around here too. Hades then appears and lets slip that he's kidnapped Meg. He also sends the Hydra up to fight Hercules, and he has no choice but to stay and fight. It's up to Sora to go back into the Underworld and find Meg. Back at the Underworld Entrance, the flames in front of the eastern pathway are gone. Open the chest here for a POWER BOOST (8/20). Continue on to the Underworld Caverns. Take a few steps forward... and you'll fall, right through the fog! A new Heartless, the Trick Ghost, will appear. They don't pose much of a threat, but they have a long range attack that you may want to look out for; using Guard at the right time will reflect the balls of energy back at them. Turn around after falling and pick up the MYTHRIL SHARD out of the chest (9/20). Avoid falling rocks the best you can and enter the next area. The Lost Road is a maze of sorts, so pay attention when fighting enemies so you don't get turned around. When you enter the first large area, open the chest to the right for an Ether (10/20). There are three paths leading out of this circular area. The left path is where you just came from. Take the middle path and open the chest in front of you for a HI-POTION (11/20). The door to your right takes you back to the Entrance area, but on a different platform. Open the two chests for a HI-POTION and an AP BOOST (13/20). Turn around and go back through the door. Back on The Lost Road, head left to another big open area. The chest in this area contains a MYTHRIL STONE (14/20). There are three paths leading out of this circular area too. Take the middle one this time. Head straight to the back wall, and go around the curve to a chest with a MYTHRIL SHARD (15/20). Continue along the curve and you'll reach a door on your right that leads to the next area (should say ??? at this point). Before you head up the ramp to your left, get the TENT to the right (16/20). Now head up the ramp. Before you enter the next area, jump to the platform to the right and grab the AP BOOST (17/20). Before you go any further, the man in black will appear and take off his hood. This is Demyx, probably the least aggressive of all the Organization. He does have the Olympus Stone, though, so you're going to have to get it back. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | CHALLENGE: Demyx [7C] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | You won't actually be fighting Demyx in this battle, and instead will be | | focusing on the water forms that he creates. In order to win the challenge, | | you must defeat 100 of his water forms in 80 seconds. | | | | Individually, each form has low HP and will go down very fast with a few | | attacks. Unfortunately, you'll have to focus on the big picture and take | | out as many as possible as fast as possible. To aid you in this, there is a | | reaction command called Wild Dance that will appear every once in a while. | | Use this any chance you get (tap Triangle repeatedly) to wipe out huge | | clumps of the forms. Eighty seconds really should be enough time to beat | | this challenge. | | | | BONUS: Sora: HP +5 | | Donald: MP Rage ability | | Goofy: HP +5 | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' You'll get the OLYMPUS STONE after the battle, as well as SECRET ANSEM'S REPORT 5. You are now allowed to use the Drive command in the Underworld. Head through the doors. Here in The Lock, grab the AP BOOST, CAVERNS MAP, and MYTHRIL SHARD out of the chests (20/20). Save, and then inspect the thing in the middle. Jump into the beam of light. Pete will appear and send a bunch of Hook Bats at you. You will need to defeat them all while defending Meg. If her damage meter goes up too high, you'll lose, so don't let that happen. Once the Hook Bats are gone, focus on Pete. He's not really that hard, seeing as he only has a few attacks. Just hack away. Pete will summon Shadows at some point as well. Destroy them. Picking up orbs will restore Meg's health. Ignore Pete when he puts his shield up. After a bit, the battle will fade out. During the cutscene, Sora will chop Meg's chains off and Hercules will finally make it. Meg escapes, and now you will fight Pete with Hercules by your side. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Pete [7D] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | There is a two minute time limit on this fight before the cave collapses, | | so you're going to have to be quick. Fortunately, with Hercules helping, | | you have a number of new options. When Pete goes in his shield again, use | | the Pinball reaction command to have Hercules break the shield. Also, at | | some point, Pete will summon a giant rock to fall on Sora. It floats above | | you for a moment, so use that time to run to Hercules and use Aura Guard. | | This will shatter the rock harmlessly when it falls. Again, Pete doesn't | | have that much HP, so hack away until it's gone. Successful use of Reaction | | commands will ensure a safe and easy battle. | | | | BONUS: Sora: Trinity Limit ability | | Donald: HP +4 | | Goofy: Hyper Healing ability | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Back at the Entrance, Hades reminds Hercules of the Hydra he left up there. Turns out it wasn't defeated, and is now tearing things up. Save and head back up to the Coliseum Gates. The Hydra has done a pretty good job demolishing the Coliseum, and Hercules is in shock. _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | BOSS FIGHT: Hydra [7E] | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | This is a fun fight, not to mention the fact that Meg, Pegasus, and Phil | | are helping you. The Hydra starts out with one head, naturally. During this | | phase, watch out for tail swipes and lightning balls. Just keep moving | | until the head comes close to the ground. When it does, attack it with all | | you've got. After a certain amount of HP is gone, the head will rock back | | up into the air. Use the Vanquish reaction command to chop the head off. | | This, of course, makes more heads grow. | | | | During this phase, three heads will come out of the ground (God of War...?) | | and attack individually. At this point, Phil will offer his help as well. | | Pick a head and deplete the HP, and chop it off. When Phil starts screaming | | to you from the wall, go all the way behind the Hydra to its tail and climb | | up on its back. Use the Phil One-Two reaction command to have him throw a | | pot your way. Spike the thing right into the Hydra's spine with Urninator | | to stun the heads. Resume hacking and removing heads. | | | | When the Hydra comes out of the ground again (completely headless for a | | couple of seconds, haha), it will sprout all seven of its heads. This is | | when the main part of the battle will begin. Try to avoid most of the head | | swinging attacks and black spirit things flying around until the Hydra | | calms down and starts looking around with a couple of heads. This is the | | time to go all out and do major damage to the beast. During this phase as | | well, walk over to the eastern wall to find Meg. She will throw Sora MP, | | HP, and Drive orbs. This is also a good time to use Valor mode (make sure | | you use it right when the Hydra lowers two heads to get maximum damage). | | | | Finally, Pegasus Run will eventually become a reaction command. Using this | | will summon Pegasus to pick you up and fly you in front of all the heads, | | giving you good attack opportunities. You have to be very quick to hit all | | the heads, as the Attack reaction command doesn't stay up for very long. | | If you hit most or all of the heads, the beast will have little to no HP | | left. When it's entirely gone, use Vanquish one last time to win. | | | | BONUS: Sora: HP +5 | | Sora: Thunder Element | | Donald: Armor Slot | | Goofy: HP +5 | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' After Sora unlocks a new pathway, he'll get the HERO'S CREST keyblade. They tell you to find Queen Minnie in the Library. Heading out into the next area will take you to the Courtyard. There are plenty of chests around the perimeter, so take the time to explore. You'll encounter a new Heartless in this area, the Minute Bomb. When you attack them, a countdown to an explosion begins. If you use the Dodge Roll reaction command, you will avoid damage and potentially damage other enemies when the Minute Bomb explodes. Starting straight across from where you exit the Gummi Hangar, the chests around the perimeter are as follows (in clockwise order): ETHER, AP BOOST, MYTHRIL SHARD, MYTHRIL SHARD, and a MYTHRIL STONE (5/8). Behind the middle platform is a chest with a HI-POTION (6/8). On top of the middle platform is a STAR RECIPE (7/8). Exit the Courtyard via the door behind the giant tuba pig. In the Colonnade, you'll face lots of Shadows. There are quite a number of them, but they'll stop appearing if you fight them for a good five minutes. You should ultimately make your way to the door on the opposite end of the hall. In the Library, open the chest for some TORN PAGES from Pooh's book (8/8). Talk to the Moogle to synthesize (or buy armor if you want, there are a couple new pieces) and save. Talk to Queen Minnie when you're ready to proceed. Donald and Goofy split to warn the rest of the castle of the danger, while Sora stays with the Queen to escort her to the audience chamber. You'll get a DISNEY CASTLE MAP too. Now that you're with the Queen, you'll have to protect her. You'll probably want to save first though, since the next part can be tough. Minnie does a bit of fighting on her own (in the form of white balls of light) but she really can't tough it out all by herself. Take care of any Heartless on screen, and then call her over with Triangle while making your way to the Audience Chamber. And of course, if her damage meter fills, it's game over. If you stand next to her and use the Faith reaction command, an area effect spell will take out enemies as well. Use the Finish reaction command when you reach the door. Minnie tells Sora that she sealed the room for its protection, but when you enter it seems that Heartless got in anyway. And there are MANY of them, all Bolt Towers. The goal of this part is to lead Minnie to the throne at the far end of the huge room. Instead of running down the main drag, let's pick a side and run that way. Once you have a corner cleared out, call Minnie over and fight by her side. Use the Faith reaction command to knock back the Heartless around you, and use this opportunity to move a little closer to the throne. When they close in again, just use Faith again to knock them back. This defensive strategy is pretty simple, and sure to get you to the other end of the room safely. All out offensive doesn't seem to work very well in this situation. If you want the extra munny and experience, you can just use this strategy until they are all defeated. Again, use Finish at the throne. BONUS: Accessory Slot Auto Summon ability Sora follows Minnie down into the Hall of the Cornerstone. It seems Maleficent is behind the sudden Heartless invasion. Use the save point to return to the world map and travel to Hollow Bastion. Mere minutes after talking to Merlin, he has the team back at Disney Castle. He seems to know what's wrong, and subsequently makes a door for the team to enter. Sora's mission is to enter the new world, find the perpetrator, and seal the other door that leads into that world. Sounds good. Enter the door. ~=============================================================================~ | 9.
